Half-Life is completely : in-game, with 'cutscenes' occurring from the view of the silent : protagonist. They are scripted, and some you can't miss, but the point is : you never break character. Mass Effect is LOADED to the brim with dialogue : experienced in cutscene format, and if you spend your time with each and : every rabbit trail available your initial play through stretches to 30+ : hours. In this particular instance, all the information available to me : made the game's finale EXTREMELY rewarding. : I think both are awesome, both in content and style, and have stories that : have touched me deeply. Based on your comments, I'm interested to see if : you have any opinion on them. :) : Bonus round: how about Bioshock's twist in using the linear 'do as you're : told' nature of the FPS? Big ups both to Half Life 2 and Mass Effect - both ground breaking games in their way. HL2 did however lend itself to the "There's only one solution to every situation, please walk this way." kind of gameplay. Mass Effect kept the player engaged by having them interact in every cutscene through the dialogue option box which kept it fresh. Also every bit of dialogue out of your character's mouth was a paraphrasing of what you clicked on. That blew my mind. The biggest moment in that game for me was choosing Williams or Kaidan(Carth :P). That was pushing the envelope, destruction style! Half Life 2 (I've only played the main game, no Episodes) was amazing - that's what utilisation of HAVOK is meant to turn out. Mass Effect was also brilliant for the designers managing such an epic scale. Unbelievable. I failed the Bonus Round (Better luck next time!) I haven't played Bioshock. Is it now to be placed on my list of must-plays? And since I quoted Firefight, we're still on topic. Right?
