My friend, everyone is motivated by money. And I'm not complaining about the price-tag - I got it for a fairly good $75AU (JB HI-FI are the bomb!) The effort came off as kinda lazy. ODST is, in theory, everything I'd like from a Halo game. It had health back, explored an awesomely underrated character-set that I've always wanted to see more of, but it just felt poor in places. The script, for one. Try and tell me that you didn't find Dare and Buck's "romance" cringe-worthy. So many lines from the game are just plain painful. In Kizingo Boulevarde, there's a point where the Marine Commander states "This ODST we've got - he's an artist with high explosives." That line had no basis. Mickey had no direct contact with the Commander, and honestly had done nothing more special than drive a tank. It sounds completely wrong, and massively demeans the regular Marines you fight alongside. On the money issue: Bungie designed a game that would have a maximum target audience. They removed any swearing and basically any aggressive behavior that you would expect from battle-hardened Special Forces soldiers to keep the rating down and sell a larger volume of games. If it was indeed pure fan-service, they would have created a gritty, realistic story set within one of the darkest moments of the trilogy. I'm sorry. I just don't enjoy hearing people treat Bungie Studios as a whole, like it is infallible. There are some seriously talented people in that company, but the writing over all has felt very weak for the last few games. Of course, it really wasn't anything too amazing in the first game, but they kept it simple and within their limits. I truly enjoy playing these games. So refute away - I'm looking forward to a solid discussion.
