Alright, this is probably too far-fetched, but what if the Forerunners actually crippled the Slispace drives from most of their ships during the Flood war, to prevent the Flood from reaching the Maginot Line and the Ark so easily in case the ships were captured? This would've forced Mendicant to lead his fleet to the Line in normal space - providing the rest of the Forerunners the time needed to build Offensive Bias. Doesn't explain, though, why would the Dreadnought be able to travel in slispace - perhaps the drive was only partially disabled, forcing them to exit always at system edges. Anyways, this is just an improbable theory. It's also interesting to note that the travel from Delta Halo to Sol took 5 days from the Forerunner Dreadnought, and 13 days from Regret's Carrier. And the Dreadnought hung around Sol for nine days for reasons unknown. If Miranda, Johnson and Arbiter departed Delta Halo on Nov. 3, they'd have a chance of reaching Earth a day before the Chief if they used a Covenant ship with the same speed as Regret's Carrier. Plus, it's possible that some Covenant ships are faster than others, and that they used one of the faster ships, allowing them to arrive even earlier.
