That would explain why it exited slispace so far before Earth and actually took nine days to land on Earth. Another question is, why would Mendicant do that? To stop the covenant from reaching the Ark? If it had limited control, it could slow the ship down but not stop it. I hope this is expanded further in the future. The bnet update, which is the source for the dates, tells that the Dreadnought, upon arriving at Sol, proceeded to Earth at "near-relativistic speeds". Someone could maybe count how much it would take from the system's edge (assuming the Dreadnought exited slipspace there) to Earth at sublight speeds - even though we don't really know how fast it was going. And the "system edge" is ambiguous at best, plus we don't really know where the Dreadnough exited. In uprising, it was seen near Jupiter, but we didn't see it transition from slipspace; we can assume it exited well before that part. Also, it's kind of an odd coincidence that the Dreadnought actually passed Jupiter and Mars from visible distance on its way to Earth if it was on a direct course. The planets being aligned like that must be extremely rare. Unless the ship purposefully passed them - for reasons unknown. Or it's just an artistic choice, to showe the ship's position. It's also interesting to note that Forerunner vessels tend to fly at sublight speeds more often instead of slispace, even with their superior technology. As seen in the terminals, Mendicant, on his way to the Gravemind, witnessed worlds commit mass suicides - seeing that would be impossible in Slispace. Also, Librarian saw Mendicant's fleet from Earth, as "shadows against the stars". Unless they project a shadow to normal space from slispace, they must've been traveling outside slipspace. There's a possibility that the stuff in the terminals is symbolic - that they don't actually witness that, but write it in the form as if they actually did. But it's interesting nonetheless, considering the Dreadnought's long in-system travel time. Perhaps I'm over-theorizing, but there's a faint possibility there's some thought put into this on behalf of the developers.
