In Response To: Re: Suggestions on a few multiplayer changes for R (Gravemind) : Sounds like a problem with your 360 in particular. I have a custom variant : chock full of fire-based weapons and the fuel rod gun, and nobody I've : played it with has had any problems even with a whole bunch of fire and : fuel rods flying everywhere. Every time it happens, everyone else gets slowdown too. Usually happens when somebody throws a trip mine (if you throw a tripmine in a certain spot on Cold Storage, the framerate will drop to 1 frame per minute and all the objects will despawn) :It's not a moot point. Halo 2 allowed you to spawn with every weapon besides a fuel rod gun (not in :multiplayer anyway) and IIRC the Sentinel beam. There's no reason for custom games to not allow :you to spawn with any weapon you want. Custom games and matchmaking games are the same game, except one is set up for you by a server. The code, networking, and everything else is the same. They also have to make sure players don't get screwed over by choosing an in-game option. If I also recall, even though you could spawn with any weapon in Halo 2, it was impossible to ever actually have all weapons on the map (even with Fiesta). And even if you could, Halo 2 had different memory demands and a hard drive was present so that you didn't need to hold everything in RAM since Halo 2 could get away with pulling data from the HDD (In Halo 2, the Xbox streams the map in and out as you move around it. This is why maps like Turf had a relative crapton of detail in them versus "open" maps like Tombstone where you can see 90% of the map at one time ) In Halo 3, it has to hold everything in RAM because they cannot depend on a HDD being present). I'm pretty sure Bungie didn't go "Ahaahaha, let's fuck over the people in customs!". I'm pretty sure if they had been able to, every single weapon would have been spawnable. They have said that they wish they had chosen the carbine as part of the 'core' weapon set. I would have liked to be able to start with Spikers and Carbines myself so we could have Brute and Covy gametypes. But when you have to ship a game, choices have to be made, and they had to decide on a group of weapons that could fill most of the roles that one would want for starting weapons, which is why the Beam isn't a starting weapon since the Sniper Rifle already filled the sniping role. The Carbine isn't startable because the BR is there. The spiker isn't spawnable because it was probably too close to the SMG. The mauler isn't spawnable because we already have the shotgun.
