Why did the : Covenant not expect humans on Earth? It seemed strange then, but even : stranger now. The Covenant were led to Installation 04 by an artifact they found on Reach. It's conceivable that the location to Earth was not revealed to them by UNSC failing to follow the Cole protocol, but that some Forerunner artifact or installation (perhaps 04 itself) revealed the location to them. All they would have known about it was that it was a world with a Forerunner installation on it-- a portal leading to the Ark. They knew it was important to the Great Journey, but perhaps they didn't know how. : The Covenant Construct: What was the covenant construct Cortana mentions in : High Charity? It was "fighting back" and "unusually : formidable". She specifically says it's a covenant construct. So… : what was it? Misidentification. She calls it "unusually formidable" for a "Covenant construct". She's assuming it is one because it is in High Charity. She describes it as being uncharacteristic of Covenant constructs, though-- it's too strong. Mendicant Bias is a strong AI known to be present on Forerunner installations. It's possible that when HC arrives at Delta he accesses it. : Last time you asked me: What am I supposed to make of 343GS's speech on Two : betrayals, when he tells the MC (or Cortana as some people think): : "Last time, you asked me, if it was my choice, would I do it? Having : considerable time to ponder your query, my answer has not changed." I don't believe Bungie addressed this comprehensively within the scope of Halo 2 or Halo 3. It's possible that story changes rendered it nonsensical, or that it covered an aspect of the story that was abandoned or simply left unrevealed, or else 343GS is even nuttier than we think and has mistaken the Chief for someone else (Didact?) or is referring to him collectively, as if he represented all Reclaimers.
