: Is Bungie using thousands of hours to measure years to avoid confusion, to : avoid, 'How long is a year? Is it a Mercury year of a Neptunian year?'? This question I believe came up when fans were questioning the Marathon timeline, and the answer was that, for the sake of clarity and understanding, all years were standard Earth years unless specified otherwise, regardless of the source of the figure.
