Having just spent the past 500 years reading this topic, I feel your questions are answered far better than I am able to answer them. The main thing I've noticed is that Mendicant Bias is a huge topic here. Well, assuming that Iris is canon, I can't suggest to everyone (and you, Cody) how important it might be to read through the Resources Forum at ABO with emphasis on the audio files and text files within Episodes 1 through 5. The "Transmission" and "MB" audio files are (logically assumed) to be Mendicant Bias. Many of the text files appear to be from Mendicant Bias, with some other text files providing other information (such as "D-Com" talking to himself as he's activated the Array right before the Halo Installations fire). The Server videos are worth watching, but aren't required. We have the full text of those videos within the "Log#_Transcript.txt" topics within the Episode subsections of the Resources Forum. Obviously it's "a lot" of reading/listening/watching, but considering all of the talk, contemplation, and time being put into your questions and on Mendicant Bias, it could really help if some of what Mendicant Bias said during Iris could possibly be deciphered beyond some of its more cryptic meanings. Finally, taking note of the Wikipedia article posted by Zohak a little ways up in this topic, I can tie that to AdjutantReflex's (really Mendicant Bias's) last post at Bungie.net on September 13, 2007. "AdjutantReflex" (AR) was used as a vessel for Mendicant Bias (MB) to convey its messages to us. He stated that AR knew who he (MB) was and knew what sacrifice had to be made (himself), allowing MB to use him as a vessel. There's another intersection with "charity" to go along with scarab's pointing out how the Dreadnaught was on High Charity. From that same final post at Bungie.net I derived a second meaning hidden within due to some of the theories in this topic regarding MB being the AI Cortana was struggling with: "This vessel I have stolen is leaking A jar too small to hold an ocean I cracked it open to bear me up Another soul snuffed to speed my passage Another life desiccated and scattered to the Grand Cycle" While obviously referring to AR, I believe this also refers to the Dreadnaught and how he had to "steal" it to accomplish his goals. I believe he was also aware of the fact that he had defeated Cortana, as well as Master Chief's entry into the ship at the end of H2. Thus, MB wasn't just referring to AR being another soul that was snuffed out to speed his passage but to Cortana as well, knowing that he just left her "defenseless" to deal with the Gravemind. I'm not sure if any of this helps aid your search for answers, Cody, but the Resources Forum at ABO and these explanations regarding some of what happened toward the end of Iris could really help the HBO members in pursuit of these answers and you too.
