Grunts' methane biology

Do you remember the cutscene at the beginning of AORCR? We see a Grunt sniff the air. A Grunt sniffing a nitrogen oxygen mix, what's that all about? What I propose is that the Grunt is not using methane the same way that we use oxygen. This means that their natural atmosphere also has oxygen. Maybe they breathe both gases but use them for different purposes. They use O2 like we use it. They have amazing enzymes that convert methane in solution into, I dunno, gas hydrates? This happens in the lungs. Their blood is a thin white slush of gas hydrates and other fluid. Their cells can metabolize the methane by combining it with O2 to give their metabolims an extra kick. Think of it as a nitrous oxide injection to super-boost their metabolisms. Ok, gas hydrates usually only form at high pressures but lets just believe that Grunts have amazing enzymes in their blood that make carbonic anhydrase look tame. Another term for gas hydrates is 'the ice that burns'. That's right, it burns! I suspect that more than one Grunt has found this out when scored by a plasma weapon. : Anyway, what always works for me here is this: get the sniper rifle from the : central building (pretty easy to do with the Warthog, the brute in there : is a chump), then sneak out, hide behind boxes while you snipe the gunner : in the normal wraith up on the platform. Sneak around through the : containers, jump into the wraith, and lay waste to all those grunts in : ghosts (plus the AA wraith). Works like a charm, and avoids confrontations : with overpowered grunts. Good call, unless you are after a certain item...
