| Dumbass boss battle? *sp* | |

In Response To: My views on Halo 3 (Rockslider) (SPOILER ALERT) In my article I suggested (near the end) that the game didn't have any 'dumbass boss battles'. Maybe I was being too kind there because it now strikes me that the Spark battle DOES have elements of dumbness. Try this for size: (1) He seems totally impervious to everything but the Spartan laser. Today I gave him a full 8 rockets and extensive treatment with a Sentinel beam for good measure. Not a scratch. This reminds me of the magical power of Johnson's sniper rifle in the Tartarus battle in H2. (2) Everything is so closely scripted as to remove practically all enjoyment or freedom. For starters Spark is utterly hopeless in aiming his lethal red beam at you prior to being zapped by Johnson. Real convenient for you eh? On Heroic you can just back off to the door and pretty much wait for Johnson to do his stuff. And when you DO get the laser, Spark obligingly hovers practically stationary - somewhat unbelievable behaviour that makes for no challenge at all if you use the transparent panels to give you cover. It certainly makes for no INTERESTING challenge. There's practically no element of skill to enjoy in the whole encounter. On an incidental point about that battle, there's something badly missing. Namely some verbal reaction from Spark when zapped by Johnson. He should shriek or something. But he's unnaturally silent - which is especially out of character for Spark! And because he also zips off so fast that you'd think he's just vanished or teleported or been destroyed or something, first-time players will very likely not have a clue what just happened. Pretty bad for such a key event!
