In Response To: Halo Machinima now illegal? (Laird) You people are looking far to into it. This just states that you can use Halo for machinima purposes so long as you give credit where credit is due. You just can;t make a profit off of it, unless you are RvB who has made some arrangements with Microsoft and Bungie. They are allowed to make money from their Machinima and they give Bungie and Microsoft commecial purposes a la Gamespot Bungie is not the kind of people to pound on us for using their material. In fact, some of them even like to see cool things if a fan can pull it off. They are more forgiving than Microsoft makes them out to be. Fan Fiction is just that "Fiction." It is not in Bungie's best interest to go around and sue every last fan fiction writer there is. Why? Because even the greatest writers in the world got their ides from somewhere else. So long as you don't publish it and make money, it is okay. Movies of machinima, game videos, parodies, and such are okay so long as you give credit to microsoft. Microsoft just doesn;t want a reason to go to court for something stupid and embarrass themselves. They not only protect you, but they protect themselves. Weird Al parodies people without royalties, but he does however give credit AND ask the makers if he can parody them so no problems between them persists. Some even take great pride saying "If Weird Al wants to parody your song, then you have made a great song." (CHAMILLIONAIRE) It's not illegal to do parodies and such, but you have to be careful of what you make. Make sure it doesn't do anything that would give reason for the company to be pissed off.
