What many of you guys are worried about is getting in trouble for having a real story set in the Halo universe (i.e. It's not a pointless Red Vs. Blue Comedy, but rather a serious drama). Well, they say that "You can’t add to the game universe or expand on the story told in the game with “lost chapters” or back story or anything like that." They did not, however, say that you cannot use the Halo Universe as a starting point and then branch off into your own story.

One thing I noticed on redvsblue.com forums was one person asked, "Does this mean you can't sell a shirt with a quote from your machinima?" and was answered with something like, "Yes, that's what it means." However, the quote (unless from the game itself) is not Microsoft's. It is yours. You can sell anything on a shirt or hat or mug, or whatever, as long as it's not owned by Microsoft. And last I checked, Microsoft didn't own the English language (correct me if I'm wrong). The same thing goes for soundtracks. If you use your own, you can sell it. The songs must be original, of course.

"You can’t sell or otherwise earn anything from your Items." This has always been known. No suprise here.
"We will let you have advertising on the page with the Item on it, but that’s it. That means you can’t sell it, post it on a site that requires subscription or other fees, solicit donations of any kind (even by PayPal), use it to enter a contest or sweepstakes, or post it on a page you use to sell other items (even if those other items have nothing to do with Game Content or Microsoft)." Now, not being able to sell it, that's a big duh. Same thing for the site requiring subscriptions and other fees. Now the donations thing. Remember that you cannot solicit donations. However, it does not say that you cannot make donations possible. As long as you don't ask for them, this document suggests it is perfectly legal. But it's a little borderline, which is why I don't do donations. The contest and sweepstakes part is very self-explanatory. You CANNOT enter your machinima into a contest, unless Microsoft says you can. And as for posting your item on a page used to sell other items, the only real way to sell those t-shirts with a quote on them is to sell them on a different site, unless you want to risk devoting a seperate page to the selling of these items (it does just say your item cannot be on a page with things being sold, but it's a bit of a stretch).

And that's my take on some of the things. If you've read all the way to the bottom of this post, congrats, you've survived one of my rants.
