Bungie's Halo will no doubt differ from any other : developer's or genre's Halo. It's stretching the IP to somewhere I : personally don't feel it should go. I had wanted to respond to your original post and never got to it earlier, but it concerns the idea of Bungie and Non-Bungie. Obviously, there's an easy distinction there, one only has to look at the Meet the Team page, or read the WUs and the odd forum post to find out who is and isn't an actual Bungie employee or contractor. The thing is, new, "non-Bungie" people are regularly being brought into the company, bringing their own ideas, methods, styles, and personalities with them to constantly rewrite whatever it is that makes Bungie, Bungie. Additionally, Bungie employees are regularly "moving on," as the saying goes, to form new ventures and hopefully spread the Bungie love around to other places. Matt presented a very distinctive persona online when he worked there, one that changed considerably when Sketch, and then Frank, took over those duties. Alex composed one style of game music, Marty another. Evil Otto, mehve, Shishka, Chloe, AGDTinman, et al. have all brought very different elements into the wallpapers they've created; each one unique, yet each one Bungie. If the Bungie you'd ideally like to see make all their stuff is the one that made Halo or Halo 2, well, those particular combinations of talent don't exist anymore. They've morphed over time, adding and subtracting people. If it's whatever the current makeup of the company is, there's no reason to think that will last through the end of Halo 3 development, much less beyond. This isn't to say that Ensemble has somehow absorbed the Bungie Way or anything, but that, if you're concerned about how well a non-Bungie company might do working on a Bungie product, you might want to examine what you, and we all, think makes up this special quality that appeals so much to us. I'm not intending to criticize you, as the idea of another company or two taking a shot at all this Halo stuff gives me pause too. It certainly will complicate the HSP, that's for sure. ;-)
