You have ripped apart Halo PC, know the story inside : and out, and most importantly know that it's all an illusion. It doesn't : matter if the game is called "Malo", if it's what your into then : great, if not, another killer app is right behind that one. Calling a game : "Halo Wars" and slapping it on an RTS doesn't mean you a) have : to like RTS' or b) even play the game at all. : Will the story suck? Probably. Hell, your right, its an RTS. : Will the game be uber-innovative? I guess it depends on how involved Bungie : gets, how strict MS is on the time line to produce the game, and how : talented the folks Ensemble have working on the title are. : Does this spread the Halo IP to other gamers? Most definitely. Look, everyone : does not love FPS games. Your not an idiot, you know that. I say take : this really cool IP and spread it out across many thing like Bungie has : done. Graphic Novels, Books, FPS style games, and now RTS-style games. The : overall majority of what they have produced (in-house and out of studio) : has been solid stuff. Has it been perfect? Fuck no. But it's been solid. Here's where we part ways, I agreed with your response up to this point. Other Halo content, such as the graphic novel, action figures and to a lesser extent, the books, have always been on the sideline with the games as the central focus. Despite the genre change, it's still a game, and it will feel (again, to me) like a crappy sequel or side story spin off (Joey to Friends, anyone?). And, of course this "in house and out of studio" content has been painstakingly overseen by Bungie, I don't get the impression that this will be the case this time around. : What Bungie needs to be careful of is the RISK factor. Spread your ass too : thin and you start producing shit. This isn't something THEY can be careful about. It is not in their hands. : Their weakness has certainly been on : the "out-of-house" side of things and they need to do all they : can to strengthen those partnerships, contracts, and methodologies to : ensure what they consider to be a quality product is produced by those : partners. And what if they never even wanted these new "out of house" things at all? I certainly can't speak for Bungie, but consider the scenario where they would want to put Halo to rest before it dies of over use, would they get their wish? More than likely, even if they want to stop, Halo will still be jammed down our throats until we tire of it. Or so seems the case. With that in mind, can Bungie really over-see every direction the Halo series takes with the amount of attention required? If they need to rapidly expand in order to do so, will their vision stay the way it was intended? : Just my two pennies being rubbed together. :) Mine as well :) : Gary I'm worried for my favourite video game series, is all. And my favourite aspect of the series is the story, which is why I've placed so much emphasis on it in this thread. And perhaps my fear of my own creation of "Halo" in my mind being destroyed is why I've sensationalized my point. But as with anything, the situation isn't as cut and dry as simply the danger of one aspect. My concern is just with the radical changes in direction. I suppose that if I were a Halo fan back in the days where it was in creation, I'd be one of the guys who left after it became an FPS, I don't know. (Of course the game alone is no longer the only reason why I'm here :P)
