Actually, changing ANYTHING at this stage is a big deal. (Bungie's already had more alterations to Halo 2 than any other console game in history. And the ONLY reason they've gotten away with it is because Halo 2 is as big as it is... but that's STILL not enough for Microsoft to say 'sure, go ahead and change the whole frickin' game'. (And that's what we're talking about here.)

Bungie designed the Halo 2 multiplayer maps around the concept of power weapons. You (and other 'competitive' gamers) are annoyed by this, because it's so abusable - but imagine how much worse it would be for non-competitive gamers if they suddenly changed the weapon respawn, without overhauling the entire layout of certain maps, and CERTAINLY the weapons placement on those maps.

The 1Up article suggested that you could counter the vehicle strength by upping the power of the grenades... but what does that do on maps without vehicles? Suddenly, grenades become the single most important item on Midship. That would suck. :(

They suggested overhauling the weapon balance for dual-wields... what that means, actually, is making every single dual-wieldable weapon equal in all ways (if you don't do that, some combinations will still be more powerful than others). Can you not see that this is a MAJOR change - not something you can just drop in and say 'okay, that's done, time for lunch'?

They say 'bring back the plasma pistol from Halo' - but the only way to make that reasonable is to remove dual-wielding, otherwise you've got an uberweapon on your hands. Again, not a trivial change.

The final thing they complained about - host having an advantage - is not a problem that can be solved without moving to a server-based model - totally impossible to integrate into Xbox Live (at least without raising the price to something absurd).

I'm sure that Bungie has listened to ALL the feedback on Halo 2 - the good, the bad, the ugly - and will tweak things that looked good on paper, but didn't work that well in practice, for the next game they make. But the suggestion that you can fix a few of these things with some simple changes on the fly, to Halo 2... is a silly one.
