Ratboy: wrong, and wrong. Just about everything the guy said in the article was true. Judging from statements he made about it, he is probably a decent player; not great, not bad, just decent. The problem I found in the article is that he used the words "almost" "always" and "never" a bit too much. The vehicles ARE too strong, sans rocket launcher. It is true that you literally can't kill a banshee unless the banshee makes a mistake. It is also true that dual wielding is a flawed concept. If you can hold two of a gun, that means that either the gun is horribly weak by itself (forcing you to dual wield or die), or too strong when you hold two. The concept is a neat one, and could be implemented. They would have to make it to where you can't drop your weapon as fast, because any "weakness" received from dual wielding is totally negated by the fact you can just tap Y. I could go on and write a whole article just talking about the same points the guy said. I'm very well learned on game strategy and game design, and Bungie DID make a lot of problems. As far as balanced, competitive gameplay goes, Halo 1 was better by light years, even though the pistol was overpowered (even though only by maybe a shot). What it all boils down to though, is that matchmaking is NOT a competitive environment. I had a very long conversation with Achronos at Bungie.net, and he stated very clearly that balance is NOT Bungie's primary concern in matchmaking. If you want balance, if you want fairness, play some MLG customs. That's what MLG is about, that is where their fun derives from. If you play matchmaking, you are going into what is SUPPOSED to be an easy-going shooting spree filled with cool explosions and pretty pictures, surrounded by friends and rivals where you can play all day with little to no hassle. It's no secret that I prefer halo 1 over halo 2, but I don't pretend that halo 2 is a horrible game. It's a good game, it just isn't balanced. Which is where I find my fun, being a strategic competitive gamer. Bungie doesn't WANT halo to be competitive though, nor do they want matchmaking to be competitive. I don't like it, and there are a million things I'd change about halo 2 (hell, I even think halo 1 LOOKED better for gameplay), but I also know my place. Bungie makes something THEY think is fun; not what we want. They make something THEY think is fun, and share it with us. Then they hope that we like it. It tastes bitter when you read it (and that is Bungie's words, not mine), but try to think of it like art. Do you think Van Gogh made a painting thinking "people will love this", and then tried to sell as many copies as he could to the masses? No, he made what HE thought was a good representation of what HE saw. It just turned out that we liked it.
