Seems like the reasons for this whole community to be divided, rest in the fact that we all have different motives.

For some of us this game is just fun. We play to see how the story of the Campaign will unravel. We play because we love the gameplay and spectacular explosions. I like being imersed into something thats different from my real life. I like becoming master chief and killing covie hordes by the dozens. As far as multiplayer is concerned, I do love all rocket matches. It's chaotic and random and fun. I do love the general sound of a small battlefield in my den. I enjoy halo 1 and 2 for this. I love to play with my friends, even though they are just good and not spectacular. I love when my friends kill me. I love to rush the hill even though my chances of surviving are poor considering that there are already four or five players fighting for it. I even love sneeking off radar and getting a hard earned assasination. I love alot of games and gametypes that aren't considered competitive games.

There is side two though.

This side is there for the rush. It's funny to say that even though it is just a game. I can get a rush from getting a well earned kill. Maybe it's that perfect snipe when everything just seemed to line up when you poked your head out. Or when You fliped a warthog with one grenade and then used two pistol rounds to kill two passagers that were ejected from it. There is a competitive player deep down in me. I didn't have a timer for Halo 1 but I DID know about when it was spawn time. I didn't go too tournaments, but I did have LAN parties.

I think both sides could be happy. Problem is only one side got what they wanted out of Halo 2. Part of me got all the cool things from the first catergory and missed the good things from the later.

Here's how I see it. I'm not sure if it's possible to be a true LVL 1 gamer and know as much about Halo and Halo 2 as anyone in this forum.

I'm using MM as my example.....which I know Is flawed because many players skills do not match thier LVL's. I'm sure the minimum LVL of skill in these forums is probably about 8-10. (Assuming you've reached your skill cap).

With that said I've played a couple different accounts up to their current LVL. One is about 27 and the other 20. So I have experienced gameplay at LVL 1 all the way through to LVL 27. When I was going through MM from the bottom, it was all peaches. Most of the weapon exploits like the COMBO and the weapon spawn timing and vehicle whoring were not present. Nor did I do them to other teams. In general it was a pretty clean game usually. If I got killed I deserved it and if I killed someone I out played them. Skill was there. No I didn't like it more because I was a higher skill than those LVL's. I couldn't win lot's of games because I couldn't get any teamwork going or the other team just worked together better. I lost at low LVL's too. It just didn't hurt because I got out played.

That was all fun and games for awile. As it got more competitive, attitudes towards what fun and fair begin to change. Spawn killing becomes prevolent. Holding onto one rocket or sniper round so that it can't respawn is standard practice. Camping the corner of colosus with the snipe is key. Going to the water on zanzibar with both snipes works great. Hell camping is an art form at LVL 25. With no-recourse for some of these strategies, most of the community that gets thier LVL above 30 is cheating in some fashion or will have to play out these fruterating situations time and time again to move up. Some of my friends who are 30+ say that most of the time it's not even fun to win like that. (But if you don't play dirty the other team will)

My question is this. Would changing a few things that admitedly ONLY AFFECT higher lvl's be such a big deal? It's been said a bunch of times in this thread that the only people complaining are the competitive crowd. What changes that competitive gamers are proposing would destroy the game for the non-competitive crowd? Halo 1 seems to be well liked by both casual gamers and competitive. How can BOTH PARTIES BE HAPPY? If you don't care about weapon respawn timing and it doesn't come into play in your games. Why would you argue against fixing it? Why would you say I'm wrong when I say it's broken? If it changed and didn't affect you, why do you care? Maybe, the competitive gamers are mad because there's alot of resistance for such little changes. Changes that would makes us and you happy. Alot of the resitance seems to be because we want change.

I don't know, maybe I'm just beating a dead horse. It just seems so simple to me.

Halo 1 was liked by all but a few random souls that liked to bitch.

Halo 2 is so divided that people argue for pages about everything.

If there's no problems, why are there so many of us who think there are problems?
