In Response To: New article at 1up.com... (Ename Nep)

: Level 35 players are going to have to face the fact that they're a tiny
: minority of the Halo 2-playing base, and that things they don't like work
: perfectly well for the vast majority of us that are not infallible on the
: playing field. In 99% of the games I play, having the power weapon doesn't
: make you invincible, being the host doesn't make you invincible, being in
: a vehicle doesn't make you invincible, the winner of a dual-wielding
: matchup is not a foregone conclusion.

Thats the sad truth. The level 35+ players are those who... well, simply, spend much more of their lives slaving in front of their TV playing Halo 2 than they truely should. However, these are the die-hard fans of Halo 2. Bungie got their money from all the random video gamers who decided to try Halo 2. Not the die-hard fans that have been with the community since Halo 1, and even before then -- since the original mac demos were displayed. Bungie has already stated that they're pretty much done making new maps for Halo 2. They've about milked Halo 2 for all its worth. I don't believe that they get a share of the $$$ generated from Live! sales, so other than the occasional new purchase of Halo 2 by a random gamer... Theres no more money to be made from Halo 2.

My point? Acknowledge the fact that the higher level gamers are those who truely know their game -- at least the legit ones, anyways. Those with legit high levels (The amount of standbyers/bridgers out there is nothing short of pathetic.) didn't get there by sheer luck. They know how the game works better than the lower levels, they dedicate time to playing the game (*raises hand* Guilty, I admit it. :) ), and they study habits of other players, study techniques on levels, and design strategies on total map control and domination. THESE are the people that Bungie really should be trying to keep part of the Halo 2 community. Many of these people at the higher levels play professionally. As in: for decent amounts of prize money. These people know their stuff - they eat, sleep, breathe, LIVE Halo 2.

And yet, what does Bungie do? They continue with the SMG starts. They continue to ignore the pleas from a huge chunk of the community of serious gamers for a MLG/Slayer Pro playlist, and more BR starts/No radar games. Instead, we get SMG or Plasma Rifle starts (Plasma rifle in BTB on Waterworks. Why not just change it to what Frankie wants - phantom pistols on Waterworks. Just as good.), (other term for "homosexual")-dar, and we have to run across levels while being picked off by terrible kids with rifles just out of our SMG range (Heck, I can long-range SMG a kid pretty well. But... the piece of junk can only shoot just so far.), all while trying to dodge ghosts, wraiths, and whatever artillery the other team happens to have.

Instead, why doesn't Bungie make Halo 2 more Halo 1-like? So that it actually takes a bit of SKILL to kill, and not be killed? BR start, no radar, PLEASE. SMGs are nothing but spray 'n' pray. You run around just spraying your targets with bullets, hoping to God that you magically kill them before they can kill you. BRs actually require aiming, just like the Halo 1 pistol. Sure, you could go for all body shots, which was a bit easier, but you always had to aim for the head if you intended to survive. Same thing with the battle rifle. Its about aiming, and even still, the game is nubified with the autoaim. Again, Bungie completely selling out, trying to drag every last penny out of the title. Game too tough for some people? Make it so that little kids can pick up 2 guns, start firing at random people, and get kills like crazy. Halo 2 - No skill required, accessories sold seperately.

They've got their money from everyone already, and there aren't going to be any new maps to be purchased or anything. Why not change Halo 2 now for the better, and make game actually take some skill to level up in? A battle between two Battle Rifles comes out to who is truely the better shot, and not who starts firing first, as is the case with SMGs. In matchmaking, the better shots and those with better strategies will level up, and the little matchmaking nubs will go down in the levels.

God, I've confused myself now. x_x I ramble a lot.
