In Response To: Re: Halo 2 Matchmaking: Setting a precedent (Th3-Re4p3r)
The problem with H2 is the skill curve is so
: small. It's all about who has the better guns now. That, I think takes the
: fun factor out of it significantly. I get really irritated when I die
: because I don't have 2 SMGs, and then I lose rank to lower level players
: because they dual wield more than I do.
I've said it time and time again- I just don't understand people who say things like this. Single SMG trumps almost ANY dual combo simply for the fact that you retain the ability to throw grenades, where the dual-wielder cannot. And even if by some strange happening you don't have any grenades, single SMG is STILL better. Firing duals makes you lose a lot of accuracy. I almost never pick up duals, ever. I think there's a really really large learning curve for H2. I used to pick up duals all the time. Now I don't because I win more without them. I've learned that out can out-play opponents. You can develop your movement style according to the opponents you encounter. You move differently when facing off against a battle rifle rather than a dual wielder, or rather than a sniper. Get new tactics. Find clever ways to outwit your opponents. Attack when they think you'll be taking cover. Often they'll be reloading, or just won't be ready for you. And be able to use any weapon you come across. And weapons aren't just for killing either. If you've got a BR, or grenades, and you've got a dude with an RL breathing down your neck, toss some nades and fire behind you, and he'll back off, and you can buy some time. Halo 2 gives the chance more than any game i've played, to outwit and out-play opponents. I've played against Check 6, and they're ferocious killers, I won't deny that. But that's what they're good at. They couldn't beat my team because we outplayed them. We made clutch decisions where they counted, sometimes giving up kills, good weapons if it meant buying us extra time to fend them off. Get creative, and you can win.
