In Response To: Halo 2 Matchmaking: Setting a precedent (nof) Extremely well said, I agree with you, to some part, and to some part I have other personal thoughts (different sides of my brain, each one trying to convince the other). I didn't think I was that competitive before Halo 2. It felt like this was gonna get fun, and it was, but that so much fun has started to hang a bit loose... I generally lose more than I win (thx to Bungies help for sub-level-15 players) and that makes me frustrated, so frustrated at times that my parents think I neglegect table tennis, which I play much, but isn't near as fun as H2. The fun is starting to fade, the bitterness of tight matches lost (9 out of 10 times) gets noticable, and the damn fright of getting my 11's lowered to 10's or even not advancing beyond that 11 too. On the other hand, I've started not to care as much. Instead, I start to look for matches which are fun. (CTF games on Zanzy, flag by the fan, eight players defending that thing, and eight others that just keep on respawning and respawning forever, taking that flag to their base one step at a time... Headlong games when eight defenders are in the place where blue spawns first, with a flag they try to defend, and heavy weapons in hand... carnage.) These games are like poker with coins at stake, enough to motivate me to win and make me feel good when i do so, I'm playing for fun, and I can accept losing. There are few things that match a good big team battle with high-speed no-limits carnage at the end, and few things so crappy as when you really do care, and that carnage leads to loss. Well written, nof. Made me look inside for a while... |
