She already has a family... one that is dying so she can play mommy for a few months before the Covenant come and glass Earth. A Spartan in that war is vitally important because they can accomplish far more than any average mother (of which there are still plenty of others) can do. The Master Chief is basically all by himself fighting and for all we know the remaining Spartans could also be dead. She's capable of combat and she's not fighting. It doesn't make any sense and if I were the Chief, would be pissed.
