In Response To: Re: I'm getting worried *Small HGN Spoilers* (Ibeechu) : Firstly, I want to say that, from my understanding, Halo 2 had a cliffhanger
Whose time restraints? I thought that, too, but... Were they Bungie's self-imposed time restraints or Microsoft's? Either way, it wasn't like God himself ordered it done on a certain time. If they had absolutely wanted to, they could have finished it. They could have asked Microsoft for more time - sure, it would have been a mess on the corporate level, and they would have had to fight tooth and nail for it, but in the end, they would have gotten what they wanted. Well, they would have gotten what they wanted, if they promised Microsoft one thing: No matter what, more Halo. All Microsoft cares about is money (which they should!) and Bungie cares a bit about it, too. They're a company. That's really all this comes down to. Money. And Bungie can't keep making money off of the Halo franchise if they tie up all the loose ends and answer all our questions. So there must be a line; it's thin, but it's there. A line between appeasing fans with answers, yet still opening more doors to future questions. In my opinion, it all comes down to Halo 3. Boy, was I pissed at the ending of Halo 2. I had read the books, gotten involved in the story, gotten pumped by the advertisements that promised the "saving of Earth!" If Halo 3 follows the same mistakes that Halo 2 did (making me control a creature that Halo 1 had taught me to hate, promising a last-stand defense at my planet that I control, yet not spending any time there, and lastly, ending in the middle of story) then that's it for me and the Halo franchise. Of course, I'll still play the games, but I won't invest any more money in a horribly played-out storyline. This is all still my opinion, of course. I understand that the movie, the comics, and whatever else are all still on the way, but please, Bungie, please, give us what we want this time. An epic defense of Earth, culminating in the most bad-a battle this side of the Mississippi. Or, better yet, give us what you think we want. You know how to do it. Honestly, you knew that we would hate Halo 2's ending. And, I suppose, you knew that it would allow for an even better ending via Halo 3. But you can only string us along for so far. Seriously, I have a hard time believing Bungie would do it to us, again. In fact, I can't believe that, at all. I just hope they understand the level of closure that we need. And I hope The Powers That Be don't interfere. From listening to the "Halo 3 Making of:" documentary, I have a strong feeling they get it. Cocop |
