Except that they'd apparently done nothing with it - no comments about alien life, and outside of ONI, it looks like nobody made any note of it beyond it being oddly shaped or something. It took the Covenant to bring it to the attention of ONI, as far as we're aware, if they weren't sitting on other alien tech or information. : Has that mission failed? The PoA might be gone, but the MC is nothing if not
I suspect it has suffered a major setback - the Spartans who were supposed to help him take over a Covenant ship (presuming he can't run it by himself, or take it all over himself) are either missing in action, scattered to other locations, or dead. He doesn't know if any of them are alive, though the rumors spread on the ship in Halo: The Flood suggests that everyone believes that Reach is gone, and the Spartans with it - he's referred to as 'the last Spartan' again and again, and may believe it himself. As far as he knows, the mission's failed, or at least on indefinite hold.
