: Just when did ONI find out about the Covenant? The problem is that the Covenant had evidently been studying Humanity for some time, at least to judge by the fact that they were a) able to start hunting down our colonies, possibly through study of any databases which may have been captured on Harvest, and b) were able to speak to the task force led by the Heracles in English or whatever standard language there is. At the same time, we've been sitting on artifacts, such as the rock on Sigma Octanus IV, for gods know how long, or the data Cortana accessed from the UNS astronomy databases... and yet somehow they didn't know about Alien life out there? I'd expect the colonists to have explored that grotto which was annihilated during the invasion at some point. And those ONI types never seemed to be warm-fuzzy types either, to judge by the fact that they funded Doctor Halsey's project and cooperated with the kidnapping and flash-cloning of innocent children. I wouldn't be surprised if ONI had provoked the Covenant war by accident, during an attempt to steal technology. :D : [snip] : Cortana has one standing order that the MC and her must follow -- everything
True - though her previous self-defined orders to protect John, and also the previous 'Priority Alpha' to accomplish the mission, which ends up being 'protect humanity by doing missions X,Y,Z' are still in effect. The order Keyes gave is complimentary to their primary mission, and as I stated before, Cortana seems quite willing to sacrifice others if it means both she and the Chief get back to Earth to make sure they're warned of the failure of the Pillar of Autumn mission and also the Covenant threat... along with the Flood.
