At this point, I don't think pretending H4 never existed is going to help anything.
The root of the problem is that 343i is calling the shots.
The people in charge at 343i are people who think that QTEs are an adequate substitute for a boss battle. People who think that a modern warfare makeover is what the UNSC and the Covenant needed. People who believe their own hype.
If they tore down everything and restarted, what guarantee is there that they'd get it right the second time around?

There was some talent at Bungie that made Halo what it was, and I don't think that 343i got any of that talent with the Bungie staffers who jumped ship.
