It is entirely possible for a story to exist and be loved without the logical consistency for which we're arguing. Nobody has said otherwise.
That does not mean that the story is not improved by maintaining logical consistency.
: It works because for the most part, the stories themselves are engaging
: emotionally and intellectually, and people care about the characters. Halo
: has a strike because I don't think there are really any strong characters
: to care about, so caring about the world, the universe, is sort of a
: substitute for that.
The universe which is constantly being rearranged? That won't last as a draw, then. One of the pleasurable things about Halo has been consuming the technologies and histories. "Hey, look at that cool new model of rifle," "hey, that's a neat story about how the Autumn got where it is in the first game."
