Reality is often messy and doesn't make sense, and : that's why we like stories--they DO make sense in a way that reality often : does not. If you're creating a story, especially one that involves : significant world building, the latter is part of the appeal of what : you're doing. You don't alter what's been established unless: (1) the : story demands it, (2) you don't have the capacity to "square the : circle," or (3) you don't have the will to do it. IMHO, #1 doesn't : apply to Halo 4. You know, I may have just misinterpreted your post. If what you're arguing for is internal consistency, then I'm way with you. Internal consistency is a necessary part of a story/characters as far as I'm concerned. And it's one of the (somewhat many) reasons I really dislike Halo 4. It's one thing to have the Didact go from being a human sympathizer to being Hitler. As long as that change is, you know, earned. Instead of... nothing at all happening to explain it. Maybe that's explained in the upcoming Forerunner book but, if it is, then 343 utterly sucks at presenting a story in a coherent manner. If it isn't, then 343 utterly sucks at keeping a character clear and consistent. Really, I didn't have much time earlier when I wrote my previous post, so I'm not entirely sure what I was trying to say. I don't think it came off clearly because I didn't even know what my point was. Guess I'm good enough to work at 343, though!
