In Response To: Why recycle environments for multiplayer? (jazo) : In all the Halo games there has obviously been a sense that the maps we : played in multiplayer were somewhat inspired by stuff from campaign. : However in none of them were we told right out "In this new Halo, the : multiplayer maps are taken directly from campaign, possibly at a different : time of day..." and what not. : Why is this necessary? Part of the ongoing appeal of some of my favorite maps
: I guess what I'm hoping is that if this is the way Bungie is creating
: Thoughts? Hard to judge yet, but I have to agree. I'm not really worried about the geometry; more of what is lost in the fiction side. Part of the appeal of most of the MP maps was the mystery and the fiction behind the environment, unique in each, like in the ones you mentioned. There's always some interesting tidbits and backstory there, like the Fronk ads in Longshore or all the signs in Orbital. Or the mysterious Forerunner structures in never-before seen alien environments, such as Guardian or Lockout. It's hard to describe the unique atmosphere that's present in each of those. They all complement the story of the games in their own unique ways. Part of that is lost when maps are just pulled straight from Campaign. Sure, the campaign environments all have their own backstories and subtle hints to them, but then again, so did the campaign environments in all previous games. Multiplayer maps were almost always something fresh and new.
