My bad. :P Pretty sure its been referenced beyond that, but alas, no specifics. : I was using The Flood excerpt more to point out the way they fundamentally : altered the Elite's core personality from what had been established. I got : the impression the Elites were still honorable and as such they wouldn't : deign to fight name-unworthy scum like humans. It reinforced what we saw : in The Fall of Reach, which was Elites not entering human combat until : very late. Personality is a very complicated area for me. Something I really dislike vast generalisations being applied to. I also draw a distinction between what consists of being 'honourable' in terms of its relevance. The notion that humans were not worthy of being fought always seemed a bit of an unstable concept. Difficult to figure out where the lines would be drawn and would undoubtably vary on an individual basis. It just generally seems so at odds with the Sangheili's love for combat, which seems a rather more core part of their attitude than elitism. To put it another way, it doesn't seem to make all that much sense to imply that killing humans would be dishonourable or would sully their name. : I agree it could have been handled better. It has never been denounced by : Bungie or 343i as non-official and in fact a partial rewrite was done by : 343i. It's still canonical information whether people choose to want it to : be or not. It wasn't outright denounced, but it was pretty clear that it wasn't especially liked, at least by Bungie. 343 on the other hand are rather more dedicated to trying to reconcile things where they feel they can. : To me the real retcon was still Contact Harvest. I was quite content with it : before that messed it up. I had extensive notes even then. It was good. : Then, the red ink started to happen more frequently. What can we say, Contact Harvest was Joe's chance to really shake things up more to his liking and vision of the Halo universe and, by Jove, he took it. As it happens, Contact Harvest remains my favourite of the Halo novels.
