In Response To: Re: 343I and the future of Halo. (General Vagueness) : I'm curious, how many years ago? I wasn't aware of : any significant retcons (besides maybe what Sgt. Johnson was and why he : survived) that happened until Contact Harvest or later. To be honest, I checked out halfway through Halo 2. I didn't care for the about-face regarding the Elites, but my biggest problem was how poorly the story was presented. Much of the dialogue and voice-acting were cringeworthy, and the whole story felt like something thrown together and produced by a couple of kids in high school. As for story inconsistencies, I had a problem with the way that the books and games were, for all intents and purposes, in two separate universes. I know that Bungie said early on that the books were not canon, but then I have to wonder what the point of them is. Are you interested in the halo universe in the books, or in the games? And even within each universe you could tell they were making things up as they went along. My main gripe aside from inconsistencies was how poorly the narrative was conveyed in Halo 2 through ODST. Even if the story had been decent at a high level, the presentation was very amateurish, which killed any interest for me. You could tell they were trying really hard but just weren't up to the task. Reach was the first game since Halo CE that I thought that had a competent presentation (whether the story made that much sense is another issue).
