I mean, I understand why it's not a clean switch, but that doesn't mean that it's not unfortunate that it couldn't have been better. I suppose under current technical constraints, I don't think I would complain, since it is a neat feature and there's no solution.

Can't agree with this at all. That's something that has an immediate, easy, and permanent fix. The long blackout is annoying and has no solution. Not a very good analogy, I think.
