No. You think I'm agreeing with your point that you can make competitive players play anything and they'll love it, and it'll all be the same. Rather, I think you're agreeing with my point that it's possible to create a game that's suitable for competitive play out of the box (Halo 2) and is still fun for everyone else. The problem is that default Reach, the one you play, is not suitable for competitive play. It just isn't. I know you're tempted to believe that if they just gave default Reach a chance then they might like it and everything would be great. But this opinion greatly undervalues what insight the competitive playerbase has regarding what makes a game suitable for competition. MLG doesn't want to be forced to alter and contort the game to adapt it to their needs. They don't get some kind of pleasure out of distancing it as much as possible from what the unwashed masses play. In fact, they're probably very aware that the more they change the game, the less normal people care about what they do, as referenced several times in this thread. : I believe the moment MLG separated itself from rank and file default : gameplay, it doomed itself. It encouraged elitism and thus encouraged : unnecessary retorical strife between those who like it and those who : don't. They separated from the rank and file out of necessity. And if MLG Halo is doomed, it's because of lost revenue from much larger issues than elitism and rhetorical strife on random forums. The elitism and rhetorical strife is just an important factor to you.
