It's not either/or, it's both at once. We have to make a movie that has several levels of themes. If there's too much red blood spilled, the kids (and their parent's money) are gone. Yellow blood is a totally different thing. We can bathe in it and nobody will care.

True. Terminator was a wild ride. Cartoons are fun. We aren't making a cartoon. Everyone with an I.Q. above room temperature watching that movie knew early on that the Terminator would lose at the end.

Our cyborg has to be able to be hurt, and be seen to hurt. He is still human, not entirely machine. Failure in his task is not an option, but the possibility of failure must remain an open question for as long as possible. Dramatic tension. That's one of the differences between a good movie and a pile of tripe.

The first Preadator movie was cool because our hero was beaten down and stripped of everything, yet still he fought onward to victory. That is what made him a hero.
