In Response To: Plot lines? whaddya think? (Shotgun Pete) [snip] You have some great ideas in here, things that I could never have seen. But you asked for comments, so here goes.... : Well anyway, the movie would start like the game, in the ship with a cryptic
Agreed, except for the teleport. We need him to go EVA from the crippled shuttle, to get us some time for the Pfhor to begin their takeover. The BoBs have to begin to get organized by grabbing weapons & ammo from the storage lockers. This solves the 'ammo problem' neatly. The marine scavenges weapons & ammo from the bodies of the dead (insert Korean War reference here). Durandal speaks to the marine, but we don't learn his name yet. He could be a human with a radio. Durandal delivers the lines from the manual. "Should I call that fighter that just left for the surface battle and ask him to come back and finish the job? Should I tell them you're not just a piece of debris?" We now know that there's a traitor on board. The failure of the Pfhor pilot to press home his attack will be shown to have been a grave mistake. Kill the marine here, and the Pfhor will win the day. [insert establishing scene of Tau Ceti from a previous post here]
Elapsed in-film time from our first view of Tau Ceti: about 8 minutes. : group of bobs and a couple security guards, after killing them and linking
Blake definitely. We have to change his name, though, or the audience will groan. He introduces himself as 'Blake. David Robert Blake' (vs. Goliath?), and he will prove to be a powerful ally. His job is to organize the BoB defense, keeping the pressure off the marine for a time. We will see him again. : talks to leela. After he grabs a set of security armor (he ben in his
Great stuff, Pete.
The costume change explains the EVA, & vicey versey. Spacesuits have thrusters, combat armor doesn't. Also we need to see that the marine has scars. Many scars. Some of them form an interesting pattern branching along & away from his spine. Blake agrees to coordinate the resistance. He's only an archaeologist (he explored the Jjaro ruins & this is a red herring as to a possible motive for the attack), but it's his @ss too. Blake points our hero towards the nearest unopened weapons locker. The marine is the only one left alive in this scene who has the code to open it. All other marines in this area have been executed in the room downstairs. Weapons & combat armor are passed out, to expressions of great joy by the BoBs. : around for a bit, gradually meeting new species while losing/saving bobs
Yeah. We need Tycho for the sequel. You're right, he's less important here & now. Nice catch, guy. Blake & the BoBs are important to Leela's plan, but it's gonna be one hell of a bumpy ride. Leela tells us of a scientist gathering corpses to discover more information about the enemy. We fight our way to his lab. (we can stick this event anywhere into the first half of the movie, as long as we account for the battle damage to the armor) Humans there need to be rescued or brought into the battle. Ichor slathers the decks. Human corpses are stacked like sandbags to defend Pfhor checkpoints (think Stallingrad). And there goes the sale to the SciFi channel. : messes up Durandal, who Leela quickly blocks out. eventually Leela loses Yeah. We encounter Bernhard Strauss. He's the scientist Leela told us about. Lotsa enemy corpses, & lotsa stacked enemy weapons. Only one problem, more weapons than people to use them. Durandal has been busy offstage negotiating with the S'pht over their part in the revolution, but he's also been keeping tabs on our progress (we don't know this yet). Finding Bernhard Strauss is the only thing that could drag him back to us and away from his discussions with the S'pht. Now we learn Durandal's name, & the reasons for and extent of his madness. Durandal orders an execution. The marine refuses. Strauss pulls a plasma pistol he's recovered from one of the corpses. He can't take the chance that the marine won't decide to comply with Durandal. Strauss raises the weapon, & the marine fires in self defense. Somewhere between firefights in the first half, we read the cargo manifest describing the 10 cyborgs. Edit ths scene in anywhere you want, along with any terminals you find interesting. There's display panels all over Marathon, but not all of them work. Some are connected to systems that were forced offline during the attack, and some have been destroyed by weapons fire. : enough control from compilors for Durandal to take control. When you
Yes. Any time a BoB sees the hero do something extraordinary, he should comment on it. These comments will pile up. Several firefights later, we manage to complete Leela's original plan. Defense drone production is back online, but is it too little, too late? We also restore the comm link, & Leela has sent her sublight message to Earth. We have won. Or have we? This ends the first half of the movie. Strauss, the drones, the cargo manifest & the comm link can be ordered anyway you like. Level design that makes sense stays, stupid stuff goes. Most of G4 Sunbathing stays. It's a great place to encounter our first Jug. Also, I would like to release a BoB who had locked himself in a storage closet. We now lose Leela to the S'pht. Durandal is back in the saddle. Durandal claims that the defense drones won't be enough to vanquish the Pfhor. He suggests a trip to the Pfhor ship. Some BoBs decide to tag along. They want to view the home of their enemy. They will not live long enough to regret their decision. It's an express elevator straight into the twisted mind of H. Bosch. Torture. Vivisection. Sodomy. (What good are slaves if you can't boink them every so often? Ask Sally Hemmings.) How does Durandal get to the Pfhor ship? The S'pht invited him. He tells us so. He plays mind games with the marine, asking questions that lead our hero to conclude that Durandal summoned the Pfhor. Durandal hints about the true nature of our hero. He confirms he summoned the Pfhor, and reveals his goal. He wants the Pfhor ship. The marine is murderously angry at Durandal, but if giving Durandal the Pfhor ship is the price he must pay to make Durandal an ally in the battle against the Pfhor, so be it. What's done is done. The important thing is saving the humans. Our hero has just sold his soul to the Devil. : with a small group of surviving security guards Durandal armed and a
Perfect. Exactly the right place to discover the motive of the Pfhor. Durandal never cared enough to discover who they were, he just wanted their ship. At any price. : equipment. After liberating/arming them they fight their way to the head
This is so cool. Here's the trip into hell. In graphic detail. But we can't steal the Pfhor ship yet. Don't forget the bomb. The Pfhor are now losing the battle. Pfhor are notoriously bad losers. Durandal is abord the Pfhor ship with the S'phit, so Leela can now come back online. Leela tells us she detects a small group of Pfhor going EVA towards Marathon. They're headed towards one end of the Bussard Ramscoop (that big hole drilled straight through Demios that we saw in the first scene), and they're towing a largish cylinder. They think the small size of the assault group will enable them to escape detection. They're wrong. The neutrinos leaking through the bomb casing are a beacon in the night. The Pfhor warship could easily slag a single colony on the surface of a planet, but they still have to deal with the humans aboard Marathon. The easiest method is to blow the whole thing up from the inside. They need to get to the middle of the shaft to place the bomb. Blake beams the marine back to stop the Pfhor & disable the bomb. Blake & the marine have lots-o-fun killing Pfhor, and prevent them from even arming the bomb. Leela tells us about the success of the 9 cyborgs dirtside. Where's number 10?
: the marine have been wondering. Durandal uses the powerful phfor
: Sorry it was so long. Opinions anyone? 160 minutes if we go full throttle & never take our foot off the gas. Yeehaw! |
