Right, which is exactly why I question if ORing is the right operation, or even if one operation should be applied to the whole dial.

Yeah... I think XORing would be more likely... it can be used for simple error detection & encryption (DES is only one of the many algorithms that use XOR's for encryption). Each number can be represented in 7 bits... (ponders)... I wonder... ARGH1
