I just found this lite thing and I don't have time to go through all posts so I just write down my speculations ,:')
First of all that's a trebuchet and no questions about it. The most powerful weapon of it's time. A couple of these and no castle could stand it. It takes 10-15 strong man to reload it. During an attack over 300 stones could be fired, don't remeber during what time. Reloading and aiming that thing takes so much time that only a few shots/day is possible.
The pinguin (or how ever you spell that in english) is the symbol for linux. The Myth server is linuxbased IIRC.
A part of a building in Halo is called the shaft IIRC. And the lightning weapon in Quake is sometimes called the shaft.
The circles reminds me of clocks put up so you can see what the time it is in different countries. But since they doesn't look like clocks they might be some sort of teleport navigation symbols.
