I happen to disagree. I think Bungie's success (which, admittedly, is rather slight — compared to companies like Blizzard, if Bungie didn't have MS to fall back on, I think they'd find themselves often in dire financial straits) is more than anything dependant on making damn good games. Well, that and the rather wise merger. Do you really think people buy their games because they're cool? Maybe a few. Us die-hard fans. But that's not terribly many, and most people buy the stuff (thus contributing to their success) because... Bungie can make games.
