Ah, there is a point that needs to be made here. You're confusing something.

This is an Internet forum. A gaming forum. People here are not congregated to discuss their baleful existences, the philosophy of being Unique, or the history of traditional custom. Nor such esoterica as Spartan Sybaritics, Potiosection, Gypsy Urban Planning, or even fractal carpetry.

Got carried away there. Back on point...

People have fun. People joke around. People do try to make points, on occasion, and hold meaningful discussions, but they also do an awful lot of pure humor and general jesting about. If you come here and post an entirely serious post, and hope for entirely serious responses, it's not going to happen — you'll probably get a fair amount of earnestness, from people who understand you're shooting for the grimly serious, but plenty of people will just joke. Is there anything wrong with that? No — unless, as has happened here, the humor gets mistaken.

Sarcasm is a form of humor. Not everybody appreciates it, not everybody understands it. But an awful lot of general humor is tinted with some form or another of sarcasm, and around here, it definitely happens.

So it's important to note that posts don't just contain either honest arguments, or sheer humor, but... some have both. Mine often do.

Smilies. See? :) I use them liberally, because I agree, an awful lot of things — especially good-natured ribbing (see above) — of the sort perfectly ordinary in real life can be dreadfully misinterpreted online. So :) And :) And :)
