All this talk about dissatisfaction led me to think about what would make
: me happy. Here are my thoughts...

: Defining Interests

: What are my interests? I think you can boil it down to this: I, as a loyal
: Bungie fan, feel cheated to a) have to wait 2 years for a game that b)
: cost me $700+ and c) didn't meet the expectations Bungie created for it.
: I'm not the only person who feels this way, as demonstrated by the
: reaction on the board, so let's pretend that I'm the proxy for all those
: other dissatisfied Bungie fans and that when I say "me" I really
: mean "we".

: What are Bungie's interests? They probably want to keep me happy so that I'll
: continue to buy games and say nice things about their games to others who
: will also buy them. Eventually, through this viral marketing campaign,
: Bungie products will come to dominate the world. They obviously think
: 'community' is important, otherwise they wouldn't have bothered with 7th
: Column.

: Options for Addressing Interests

: How can those two interests be addressed in a solution that is fair and
: equitable? This is where the brainstorming starts. We're not evaluating,
: just getting the options out there on the table to look at.

: Loyal Fans' options:
: 1. keep the game/Xbox, but bad mouth the game/Bungie and try and get as many
: people to NOT buy Halo as possible
: 2. return the game/Xbox
: 3. not buy their next title
: 4. set up a bungiesucks.com site and devote my life to whining about Halo
: (I'd have to name the site something else as recent UDRP decisions have
: decided in favour of complainants in bigcompanysucks.com cases -
: apparently because non-English speakers will get confused by the sucks
: part and think that the bigcompanysucks.com site is the bigcompany.com
: site - ludicrous if you ask me).

: Bungie's options:
: 1. they could give me a rebate of a few hundred dollars
: 2. they could send me some other Xbox titles
: 3. they could include some Easter Eggs or extra levels in the next version of
: Halo as a special thank you to loyal fans for sticking with them
: 4. they could give loyal Halo fan's a special discount on their next title
: 5. they could fly a few of us - lottery-picked - to Bungie Studios to take
: part in the recording of Halo marines' voices for the next title.
: 6. they could donate stuff to Halo fan sites to distribute - again by lottery
: - to loyal Bungie fans...
: 7. key Bungie staff could make themselves available on this forum or others
: for Q&A as an acknowledgement that loyal Bungie fans have put up with a
: lot waiting for the release of Halo.

: The list goes on...

: Evaluating the Options

: Now, let's evaluate. To be honest, none of my options are very satisfactory.
: I'm not about to set up a bungie/halosucks.com site - although another
: might - and returning the game, while getting my money back, does not
: address my other interests. Not buying their next title and telling people
: what I thought of the current game are probably my best options.

: Looking at Bungie's list, we can see lots of things that Bungie could do to
: make me happy. They probably aren't going to give me a rebate or
: additional titles: neither really addresses my interests anyway. After
: all, I don't want non-Bungie games.

: However, they could give back to the community of Halo fans in a number of
: ways that wouldn't cost them very much and would go some way to making me
: feel better by recognizing the fans' importance to Bungie success. I think
: that's their best option.
