As a matter of fact, I wrote "He's an old Bungie fan", then stared at it a moment and added the "he claims" (or whatever the exact words were). Why? I don't like absolutes. I have no idea if you are what you claim, and have nothing to corroborate it. I don't have any reason to disbelieve you either, and as it happens, I don't, but an addition of a couple words has saved my ass before, so why not?

It seemed highly, highly improbable. In retrospect, it seems somewhat more likely that you WERE — but only in retrospect. Because otherwise, it's like you coming to a cheese convention, setting up a cheese stand, and selling cheese-shaped wedges of... turnips. We get a lot of cheese around here, and if it looks like a cheese, walks like a cheese, and quacks like a cheese, we (I, anyway, and presumably others, according to the responses) assume it's a cheese.

He was using his "refuge" to make a point. You were putting it in (unless, somehow, I miss my comprehension completely) because it was cute and a snappy comeback to his sarcasm. It made no point of your own (unless your point happens to be that sarcasm is a bad thing, in which case you didn't serve it very well, anyway).
