In Response To: How to Keep Loyal Fans Happy (Anonymous Rex) : a) have to wait 2 years for a game that Game development takes a bit of time, even when there aren't substantial changes to a project halfway through (ie. changing to a different platform) : b) cost me $700+ and This is nobody's fault but your own. I've priced an XBox and Halo (and DOA3) at Futureshop.ca for my brother for $599. CDN. 7% GST bumps it up to around $650. PST as well? You're still under $700. And I fully expect he'll get years out of the system as other games are released for it. Investing in a substantial amount of hardware for a single game is a choice left up to the gamer. If you feel that you paid too much for the system, then why didn't you rent it first, to try it? Why didn't you give it a spin on a kiosk somewhere? Try it at a friend's place? A lot of people felt that buying an XBox was worth it for Halo. You didn't, and I'm sorry to hear that (but not particularly suprised). But Bungie didn't cost you $700. Bungie cost you $69.99, plus tax, CDN. : c) didn't meet the expectations Bungie created for it. Sorry, but you created those expectations. Bungie only gave you material to work with. If it were possible for us to construct fantastic images directly in the brains of our audience, we wouldn't be in game development, we'd be in advertising. And filthy rich. : They probably want to keep me happy so that I'll
Sorry, but there is such a thing as 'fighting a losing battle'. A game cannot be perfect for everyone, and the challenge is making it as good as possible for the most people. Given the mass acclaim Halo has recieved, it looks like we had some measure of success. The majority of people are well pleased with Halo--a few are even ecstatic. I'm sorry that you fall into the group that is unhappy with it, but I get the impression that you wouldn't have been happy with the game even if it had been free. : 1. keep the game/Xbox, but bad mouth the game/Bungie and try and get as many
Actually, the opposite has been happening. I've heard quite a few people change their minds and get (or rent) copies of Halo based on the positive impressions of others. : 2. return the game/Xbox
Certainly options in your case. : Bungie's options:
Right. : 2. they could send me some other Xbox titles Right. : 3. they could include some Easter Eggs or extra levels in the next version of
Halo has easter eggs, but I gather you didn't spend a lot of time looking for them. : 6. they could donate stuff to Halo fan sites to distribute - again by lottery
Bungie has done this in the past. Bungie will likely to so again in the future. : 7. key Bungie staff could make themselves available on this forum or others
Aye. I mean, lord knows, Bungie employees never read the forums and never listen to what happens on them. : I think
I'm glad the online team has you to tell them what they already know. I mean, otherwise their entire day might be spent teasing Marty, instead of working on the 7th Column or the Truth and Reconciliation. -rex |
