This basically means that your character cannot have : too much personality or make too many decisions. If this were the case, : players would feel frustrated when the main character acts in a way : contrary to what they would do, or has a personality opposite of : themselves. Though I haven't finished it yet, this is precisely what Uncharted seems to do. You play a character who really is their own character. In a sense you're just playing a rail game where you do the running and shooting. You basically do the grunt work while the character is developed and created linearly in the cutscenes. There's no choice or player investment into defining the character. I think what you mean is that there's a shady balance. You either have a strong character that you connect with because of how they've been defined and as you discover their story, or you provide a blank slate on to which the player can project during gameplay to define the character. But if you're somewhere in that gray area, your game's in trouble.
