(SonofMacPhisto) : With that in mind, shouldn't discussion regarding character development and : the story focus on how YOU developed while playing Noble Six? How did you : feel? Where did you grow and change, as a character, over the course of : the narrative? I don't buy it. Over the course of the campaign, I felt increasingly detached from Six the character. He's just... there. He wanders around, takes orders, and doesn't speak unless spoken to. It's only at the end that he shows any personality. In contrast, I felt much more attachment to the ODSTs. Even when you're playing as one of them, they're still full of personality and I actually have a reason to care about them. After Sergeant Forge died, I stopped caring what happened to the other Spartans. Six, Carter, and Jorge are all too willing to throw their lives away without a second thought. Maybe SIII's are all subconsciously suicidal, as not a single one of them, not even Six, seems to have the will to live. It's thematic, perhaps, but it feels like lazy writing to get a cheap death in the story. The only reason that Scarab showed up was to kill off Carter. The only reason that Phantom showed up was to kill off Kat. In both cases, the enemy shows up out of nowhere, kills the desired Spartan, and is gone just as quickly. Cheap and lazy. More to the point, I felt the biggest detachment from Six at the end. I really hated Lone Wolf, from a story/character perspective. Six successfully delivers the package and defends the Autumn, completing his mission. And after that? Try to rendezvous with Jun? Call command to see if he can get an escort out of the area? Try to meet up with nearby marines? Heck, he just eliminated a battlecruiser, a bunch of phantoms, and countless infantry in the area, and it's not like he didn't just pass by multiple groups of UNSC troopers still in the area. The skies should be clear for the moment and there should still be friendlies in the area, and it's not like he's abandoned in the middle of enemy territory, alone, with no way out. I'm sure the UNSC wouldn't hesitate to try and extract a Spartan. But what does he do? He walks out into the middle of nowhere and decides he has nothing better to do than stand around, let phantoms drop all around him, to die in a meaningless battle. You aren't protecting your home, like Jorge. You aren't protecting your squad, like Carter. You can still be useful to the UNSC. You aren't even the last surviving member of your squad. Dying here serves no purpose.
