In Response To: Who is Reach's main character, anyway? (SonofMacPhisto) No. As I've said before, you have to think about what it means to make the PLAYER the main character. This basically means that your character cannot have too much personality or make too many decisions. If this were the case, players would feel frustrated when the main character acts in a way contrary to what they would do, or has a personality opposite of themselves. If you don't have a strong character though, it's tough to make that one your main character. Games like Deus Ex do it because the player really does have full control over the game, and can choose to play the story however you wish. You can be a paranoid conspiracy nut and trust nobody, you can co-operate with your superiors, or you can play the game as a pervert. Pretty much anybody bringing themselves into the game will find that the game adapts to them, thus they actually do drive the story with their choices. But with a game like Halo, the story is set in stone, and the game is not about players ability do do what they want with the story. As much, it doesn't make much sense to have a character that's weak like that. What you end up having is just that… a weak character who can;t move the story forward. Not that Reach's story does much moving…
