Ha, that's awesome to know. This will probably grow into a post of my own, but it will be less criticism and more memoir.
A lot of my recent thoughts are coming from a book I'm reading, Extra Lives. I posted an interview with the author on Harper's Magazine's website a few days ago, and have been THRILLED with the book so far. I feel like it's given me permission to finally come out and say that, yeah, the writing of most video games absolutely BLOWS. However, it's still a very YOUNG medium that's still figuring out what the hell it even is, and what it's trying to do. I'm not done with the book, but I suspect his conclusion will be that video games matter because they give you the chance to be IN the narrative in such a full body way, that for all intents and purposes, you literally ARE the main character. That's something exciting that no other medium can currently, and may never, be able to do.
