In Response To: Re: What I want in a rerelease (Lion O Cyborg) : Director's cut sounds awesome. Maybe add some new levels too like DLC but
Oh, yes, a director's cut would have to include entire branching timelines when you're successful at the Save the Bobs levels that was scrapped. At least, that's the theory according to story page speculation. Err, actually, the branching would have to occur when you FAIL, and the failure would be so hard the entire colony goes kablooie from the bomb, with an added choice of YOU being in it or not. Very PID-ish stuff. : Extra things to add to the engine as well as your suggestions would be:
Oh yes. To elaborate on simplifying the map editor, if it's impossible to make concave or complicated polygons, at least do what quake compilers do and break it all up in the compiling. Err... I guess the quake compiling only removes redundant faces, there's still the stupid convex polygon rule there. Well, I don't know what to do, but make some kind of algorithm that splits all the impossible polygons into the smallest number of possible polygons to make it work, and have some kind of "working" file that keeps your uncut engine-incomprehensible polygons safe for editing. Weland and Aleph one made strides in allowing you to use textures from all collections in one map. Like, say, you can have the water liquid and fire textures in the same map, but you still can't have both water and fire. I don't know if anybody ever wanted to put water and lava in one map, but it would be cool. Can LUA scripts do as many complex actions as ACS that Hexen introduced? Most marathon maps are simple in function (push the buttons, watch some platforms, read the terminals, plug in gigantic CPU chips). As for climbing, platforming, parkour, and swimming stuff... I think the SO should function like the megaman of FPS games (well, besides that skulltag total conversion with megaman in it). He should be slow, heavy (low gravity slowing the falls), "the only one who can survive the fall," and be a tank underwater with strange vertical freedom. Climbing, however... really requires him to let go of his guns. Idunno if it's a suspension of disbelief thing to be hanging from a ledge while somehow sticking his AR out, but we already have shotgun reloading that's too complicated for our cyborg brains to understand anyway. Jumping should be wimpy; I dare say even the guys from Hexen jump higher than he should. He should jump at most high enough to get the infravision in Bigger Guns Nearby without grenades.
