I can definitely see the level design in Halo messing someone up after playing Marathon. Expecting to be winding their way down multiple paths and whatnot. Really, there's generally just an two ways in or out of each area: the way you came in, and the way you're expected to go out. Lots of cover and terrain inbetween those two points, of course, but ultimately you're going to want to just keep pushing forward.
: In any case, the real fun of Halo is not so much playing them the way you're

I would disagree with this a bit. Like, sure, that's fun as hell, but it's not the only way to enjoy the game. You can try throwing yourself against the hardest challenges the game has to offer, you can try speedrunning the levels, you can do multiplayer, or you can even just play on a comfortably difficult setting and have fun in the flow of combat. Breaking the game as hard as you can is certainly an option, but it's not the only one.
