Not even a machine shop, actually, since the Chief is apparently wearing the new armor while he pops out of cryo (I knew this would be the case from the beginning). This means Cortana had to radically restructure the armor while it was enclosed and frozen in a tiny cryo tube, without disturbing the cryo-sleep of the wearer, who's also by the way neurally integrated with the suit.

I get that the UNSC has some nanotechnology, like carbon nanotube construction in space tethers, but if they had access to flat-out magical nanotech like this, you have to wonder why isn't it used elsewhere? I'm sure there would be plenty of uses for it, like eliminating the need for any kind of conventional manufacturing equipment (which by the way we've seen many times in the Halo universe).

But I guess magic only appears when the plot demands (or more accurately, when 343i's artists need to "express their creativity"). Sadly it also eats away the believability and integrity of the setting, but apparently that's less important than some artist's desire to make their mark.
