In Response To: Precisely. (Azo 'Galvat) : This looks overdesigned. It looks uncomfortable to hold. It's blocky and : inelegant. It kind of looks like they're trying to incorporate Forerunner : design into it, but even then, Forerunner stuff is smooth and : elegant-looking in its own way. There's little nooks stuff could get : caught on, places for dirt to get in, and that's bad for a gun. Some notional concept of ‘realism’ is frequently held up as a holy cow by fans, so it's worth remembering that whilst realistic can be a good thing, it can also be a bad thing. I think the refreshed weapon designs in H4 look good so far, and there is definitely a purpose behind designing weapons that have a recognisable silhouette that works well when viewed being wielded in multiplayer on TVs all the way down to standard definition displays. The original Halo 2 rifle probably fares okay within Halo 2, but with more similar weapons (the DMR, for example) coexisting in H4, it needs to stand out. The weird thing is this gun design looks like it comes from the same art department as the Reach artwork, which makes the MP armour designs all the more confusing.
