I never played much Halo 3, and when I went back recently to try and pick off some achievements, it was very difficult to transition from Reach. I, too, have played way more Reach. The thing I'm trying to avoid is comparing comfortable with better. While I'm comfortable with the rush/melee mechanism in Reach (and regularly use it defensively, but almost never offensively) that doesn't mean it's better. Specifically, bleed-through makes sense to me, on a logical basis. If your shields didn't have enough energy to absorb the attack, wouldn't some of the impact make it through by extension? Imagine any real-world armor analogy. If the armor fails, the thing under the armor is affected. A lack of bleed-through almost doubles your shields' strength. You can absorb damage that would reduce their capacity by 99%, and then still absorb a single attack that would normally pop them instantly, like a melee.
